Diet, Energy, and Global Warming
نویسندگان
چکیده
The energy consumption of animaland plant-based diets and, more broadly, the range of energetic planetary footprints spanned by reasonable dietary choices are compared. It is demonstrated that the greenhouse gas emissions of various diets vary by as much as the difference between owning an average sedan versus a sport-utility vehicle under typical driving conditions. The authors conclude with a brief review of the safety of plant-based diets, and find no reasons for concern.

Energy Input and Energy Output of Rained Wheat and Barley and Its Implication for Global Warming: Case of Aqqala in Golestan Province
Recently evaluation of input, output and global warming potential (GWP) has been an extension in the sciences of agricultural. For this study 95 and 83 farmers were selected for rained wheat and rained barely in the north of Gorgan, respectively. The data including (machines, seeds, fertilizers, fuel, and pesticides) were collected by questionnaire. Then fuel, input and output energy, energy ev...
متن کاملNonsolar energy use and one-hundred-year global warming potential of Iowa swine feedstuffs and feeding strategies.
Demand for nonsolar energy and concern about the implications of fossil fuel combustion have encouraged examination of energy use associated with agriculture. The United States is a global leader in pig production, and the United States swine industry is centered in Iowa. Feed is the largest individual input in pig production, but the energy consumption of the Iowa swine feed production chain h...

متن کاملPlanktonic Foraminifera Response to Sudden Global Warming in Late Maastrichtian, a Case Study from Ziyarat-Kola, Central Alborz, Iran
An abrupt global warming event has been recorded in many parts of the world in sediments of Latest Maastrichtian age between 65.45-65.10 Ma. This warm event was documented here at a section near Ziyarat-kola in Central Alborz based on analysis of planktonic foraminifera. An unusual abundance of normally large-size species such as Globotruncana arca, Globigerinelloides subcarinatus, Pseudoguembe...
متن کاملQuantification and assessment of effective of global warming on the occurrence of heat and cold waves in some selected stations in Iran
One of the atmospheric hazards that seriously affect human life and health is the occurrence of thermal tensions and stress in the form of heat and cold waves. Iran is one of the areas of the planet that has climate variability due to its geographical characteristics; therefore, consequently, its different regions are not immune to heat and cold waves. On the other hand, Iran's climate variabil...
